Roadworks causing gridlock
Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 11:46, Tuesday 8 April 2025
Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS7405005.
The road works at Angel are causing gridlock traffic for well over a mile in every direction. It's terrible and should have been done during the night to minimize disruption. This situation is impacting everyone, and the area is being highly affected.

The simultaneous roadworks on Pentonville Road and in Angel are causing significant traffic disruption, impacting all road users, including buses. Coupled with recent bus lane closures on Pentonville Road, this concurrent scheduling seems poorly coordinated and inefficient. A more staggered approach is requested to minimize the current severe congestion.
I am also completely unclear as to why the bus lane on Pentonville road needs to be closed so frequently, it seems to be every other week!

Both journeys from N 16 t0 N1 and beyond, I had along with dozens of others) to get off the bus and walk, yesterday and today. This morning Essex Road was completely log-jammed and I had to walk from Essex Road station to Rosebery Avenue as no buses were moving. On return, I got off to walk through Angel despite having had a stroke and walking with with a stick. I walked past three I walked past three empty 38 buses . I was able to get the bus. I was able to get the bus from Angel two Newington Green. The temporary traffic lights allowed 2 To 3 vehicles through only two Newington Green. The temporary traffic lights allowed 2 To 3 vehicles through only.

Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. UKPN have been carrying out works on Islington High Street since yesterday, using UTC traffic signals. There were issues with these yesterday, resulting in excessive delays. Our NPD team has confirmed the situation has improved today. The works permit has been approved for five days (ending on Friday 11 April). If the issue persists, please raise another report or contact our customer services team on 0343 222 1234.
