The ongoing works at the junction of Merantun Way and Morden Road have been going on for weeks and created unacceptable congestion in the area with huge traffic jams.

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS7579921.
The huge traffic congestion caused by the ongoing roadworks are impacting everyone in the local area. 1. The traffic jams go as far back as the Polka theatre and affect buses and cars, making bus and car journeys impossible with the result that people are late for work and/or miss their medical appointments. Some times bus companies have to terminate bus journeys and ask passengers to get off which causes terrible stress. 2. The idling vehicles cause illegal levels of air pollution which affects the health of local residents and pedestrians and cyclists . I plan to but a portable air quality monitor to evidence this because it has become absolutely untenable. 3. According the Merton website on roadworks, companies who are responsible must always explain what is happening via signage, always have activity going on and if not explain why, and they must keep London moving by working outside peak hours and work all day or extended hours to complete works as quickly as possible. None of this is happening. Not only have the works been going on for weeks but every time I drive past, there is NOBODY working there and the barriers blocking the closed lanes are up! Clearly the company responsible ( in this case I believe it is TfL) must be held accountable and must be required to finish the works as soon as possible by allocating workers to work extended hours including weekends or nights. There should be a system of fines when the roadworks are not completed quickly and this should be enforced by the council on behalf of residents.
