Dangerous Right Turn

Reported via mobile in the General Fault category anonymously at 02:32, Sunday 28 September 2025

Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS8220590.

The right turn here at this part of the A12 is extremely dangerous.

As the lay-by is extremely short with around 6 vehicles fitting in the space, regularly behicles overflow to the 40mph dual carriageway.

This causes vehicles to swerve overflowing vehicles every single time.

With vehicles suddenly stopping as the traffic light turns red for vehicles turning right, but remains green for vehicles going straight ahead it does not help the situation with the 40mph speed limit.

The lane either needs to be expanded (as on the opposite direction 3 lanes are not needed for 100 yards or so) or keep the right turn to synchronise the green light going straight ahead. Another way to make this location safer is to put a 30mph speed restriction. This will stop vehicles from speeding down this area of the A12 and overall make the location a calmer spot considering local schools, colleges and train stations are meters away!

There has been multiple near collisions at this spot with the most recorded on 5/02/2025 - 18:55 (picture attached for reference).
